[Japan Post] Resumption and temporary suspension of acceptance, delivery delays of mail items destined to various countries/territories (Updated on June 30)

Our acceptance of various international mail items has been temporarily suspended due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, we will resume acceptance of mail items as noted below from July 1.

  • EMS and parcel-post/letter-post items by surface destined to China
  • EMS and parcel-post/letter-post items by air destined to Italy and New Zealand
  • Parcel- post/letter-post items by surface destined to Indonesia
  • For details on the countries and territories to which acceptance of mail is still temporarily suspended as of July 1, please see the appendix below (PDF).

appendix (As of July 1, 2020) (PDF file)

We continue to temporarily suspend acceptance of mail items destined to these countries and territories because their postal operators are still not accepting inbound postal items and/or our transportation performance remains significantly reduced due to reduction of flights from/to Japan.
Meanwhile, although dispatch of United States-bound items that have already been accepted will be completed soon, we continue to temporarily suspend acceptance of various mail items to the United States because we are unable to make any prospect for securing sufficient transportation capability for the time being.
In addition, because of the global reduction of flights, considerable delivery delays are expected for accepted outbound mail items.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. It would be appreciated if you would kindly understand this situation in advance.

    Item description

"Sinatra at the Sands", the first live album by Frank Sinatra (1915-1998), has finally been released as a long-waited SACD---an ideal music medium to ensure high-quality sound---for the first time in the world. The package includes a single-layer SACD, and a CD for listeners who don't have an SACD player.

"Sinatra at the Sands" is a live album by Sinatra accompanied by Count Basie and his orchestra (conducted by that famed Quincy Jones!) recorded at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas during the period of January 26 through 29, and on February 1, 1966. Among Sinatra standards performed in the total 10 shows during this period, 21 songs had been selected and made into the double album to be released in August 1966. After its release, the album won a place on the Billboard chart for 44 weeks, and was awarded as Gold Album, since then, through the past half century, as you know well, it has kept being a favorite of audio enthusiasts around the world.

The master source used for the disc is the cutting master that had been used for the analog record and been kept in the U.S. The four analog master tapes, which had been made respectively for each side of 2 LPs, have been digitized to PCM 192kHz/24bit resolution in the U.S. and transferred to the Sony Music Studios in Japan to make a DSD master. The mastering has been done by Koji Suzuki of the Sony Music Studios Tokyo, who is probably, as to mastering of SACD, one of the most experienced engineers in the world, and familiar to the customers of Seiko Matsuda's SACD released from Stereo Sound. While valuing the essence of the original master, he has done mastering with great care to make the disc the best possible quality so that it enables us to feel being in the live hall filled with feverish excitement. The included CD has been produced by applying the mastering process especially optimized for CD medium using the same DSD master with the SACD, hence even listeners who don't have an SACD player can enjoy the best sound quality we have sought for SACD. The green coating applied to the surface of the label, of both of the SACD and CD, also helps suppress diffuse reflection that occurs when the laser beam reads the signals, and make the sound quality even better.

Another big appeal of the package, as its thick plastic case indicates, is the accompanied content-rich booklet. The opening is the liner notes by Shoji Sugawara, the owner of the well-known Jazz Kissa (jazz music cafe) "Basie" that is located in Ichinoseki, Iwate prefecture and referred to as the one that boasts the best sounding in the world. The headline of the liner notes reads, exactly, "Gorgeous Sound". It begins as follows:

The beat and sound blaring from the album is just Gorgeous. What is really "America First"? This is it! Gee, I have to admit I was totally enthralled by it.
Because I've been listening to this album for more than 50 years,……(continues)

*Liner notes are written only in Japanese

We would like you to read the rest having the booklet on your hand, but as can be seen from Sugawara's uncharacteristic all-encompassing admiration, its recording, and needless to say the performances, are obviously outstanding. In addition, other contents contained in this 36-page-booklet are definitely worth reading: reprinting of the original liner notes by Stan Cornyn that were included in the limited revival edition paper-record-sleeves CD which is already discontinued and unobtainable; the enthusiastic commentary "Sinatra's 1965" (written in Japanese) by Yasuo Sangu, the head of Sinatra Society of Japan, Sinatra's sole fan club in Japan, that Sinatra authorized while he was still alive; the lyrics of all 21 songs(including the talk between performances) in both English and Japanese.

Thanks to the understanding and cooperation from the Frank Sinatra Foundation, the right holder of the master source, the UNIVERSAL MUSIC both in JAPAN and the U.S., and other concerned individuals and parties around the world, we have finally become able to release the world first SACD of such an eternal masterpiece, "Sinatra at the Sands". Please play it on your audio components and feel the "Gorgeous Sound" reproduced in front of you.
